Sanford, ME – Although school is out for the summer, the success of our children does not escape our thoughts. During the entire month of June, Partners Bank locations in Sanford, South Sanford, and Springvale collected donations of school supplies for Stuff the Bus, a program by Strategies for a Stronger Sanford (formerly known as the Sanford Strong Coalition).

For two weekends in June, Partners Bank employees also donated to Stuff the Bus in exchange for the allowance to dress in casual wear and jeans at work. Thanks to this initiative, called Casual for a Cause, the Bank was also able to donate $240 with the school supplies.

For almost 20 years, Stuff the Bus has been providing backpacks, school supplies, and other items to thousands of students who have needed assistance purchasing school supplies. The mission – to ensure children’s success throughout the school year by alleviating the pressure of keeping a stocked classroom.

Director Wanda Parent, along with other volunteers, has been conducting Stuff the Bus since 2006. With a school bus in tow, she and others started the program by collecting school supplies outside of various locations such as Walmart. Generous donors have contributed backpacks, pencils, markers, notebooks, binders, crayons, tissues, and other classroom necessities to try to fill up the school bus.

“Wanda does a wonderful job of not only trying to meet the needs of kids in the area, but the teachers as well. Last year she had a request for over 900 back packs!” shared Kyla Simpson, Market Manager for the Partners Bank Springvale location.

Partners Bank would like to thank the thoughtful folks who stopped by the branches to donate. For anyone who wants to continue to donate or volunteer their time, Parent will be at the Sanford Walmart on August 3, 4, and 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and August 16 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
